Room 207, Monday Early Evening

It was the sort of day where, while there was nothing really to do in her room, she had not particularly felt like leaving it and her one concession to being social was to leave her door open as she sat on her floor, back against the side of her bed and dug her paints out from her pockets.

They were not for painting pictures, she had no talent for that, but rather they were for repainting her beaded accessories as the colors tended to fade.

It wasn’t the most exciting of work to be engrossed in but it was pleasing all the same and Yeul had never been one to seek out excitement anyway.

Perhaps she’d fetch a cup of tea in a bit? Yeul mulled over that as she carefully recolored a blue bead.

Liara still felt mildly foolish and most certainly embarrassed about the conversation she'd had in Science Club. Spending time alone with her books had not calmed her down, and so walking around was her next choice.

Walking, in fact, straight to someone she knew was a source of calm during the worst of times.

"Yeul?" she said, awkwardly sticking her head in through the doorway.

Yeul eyed a yellow bead carefully, looking for places she'd missed.

"Hello Liara," she said, glancing up with a smile. "Did you want to come in?"

"If I am not interrupting," Liara said politely.

"You are not," she assured her earnestly. "I would enjoy your company. I am only painting and I can put that away, if need be."

"Please do not put down your work on my behalf," Liara said, slipping into the room. "I was merely out on a walk and I thought you might like some conversation."

Or she might like some conversation. Hush.

"Your company is always welcome." Yeul set her bead to dry and picked up another of the yellow ones. "I am pleased that you thought of me."

Vaguely baffled, as her company did not usually get sought out, but pleased.

To Liara, she was by far and away the least alien, most comfortable person around here that she knew of. It seemed natural, in as much as social activity came natural to her.

"You are my friend," she pointed out. "It would feel negligent not to."

Gingerly, she sat down on the floor next to Yeul.

Yeul's smile brightened.

"You are sweet to say so," she said. "I will have to keep that in mind. I am unused to friendships and their duties."

"I was not exactly given a handbook myself," Liara admitted, smiling a little, even if her face still projected earnestness. "But it seems logical enough. What are you doing?"

“I do not think most of us are given handbooks,” she shared. “Just some are better at picking it up than others. Or given more opportunity.”

Which was really her difficulty.

“I am repainting my beadwork. The colors get dull and so by doing this, they will look new again.” She set down her paintbrush and reached for one of her bracelets. “You can see that the colors are faded here.”

Liara peered over, then nodded. "Does that happen quickly?" she asked. "Or do you have to do this often? Because otherwise, replacing them might be an easier solution."

"Not that often," she said, setting the bracelet down. "Every year or so I repaint them. More if I've been traveling where the sun is especially bright as they fade quicker. I like fixing them up though so it is not a problem."

"You seem very fond of them," Liara observed. "To put so much time into it."

Yeul tilted her head. "I suppose so," she admitted. "They have been with me for a long time."

Longer than most things she had.

"I suppose that's slightly silly. They are just beads."

Liara shrugged gently. "I do not think it is silly," she said. "I know that objects can be of emotional significance... especially if they are old."

Yeul smiled. "It makes sense that you would know that considering your interests."

She focused on a bead, carefully painting it. "How have you been lately, Liara?"

"I am... not sure," Liara admitted. "Some days this island can be overwhelming."

"Is everything alright?" she asked quietly. "I had not heard that the island was doing anything particularly peculiar today."

[fewer_explosions]

"No, it is just..." She rubbed at her hands. "I appear to have caused some offense," she said honestly. "Apparently I am not sufficiently aware of what topics are acceptable to talk about in human company."

"Such missteps are unlimited by race," Yeul said, after a few moments. "At least, I believe so. If you apologized, I think that your error will likely blow over given time. Everyone offends someone now and then without meaning to."

"I hope so," Liara said, sighing. "Victor appeared hurt."

[pulseof_life]

"There are many things that can be said that might hurt someone," Yeul observed, setting the bead to dry and glancing at Liara. "It was a mistake, I assume? Not something said with the intent to harm? If so, there is not much that can be done once an apology has been given. It is up to Victor, now, to decide how to carry forward."

She considered that. "And you, to remember the offense and not repeat it, if possible."

"I do not intend to," Liara said, sitting back. "Nor do I need instruction from anyone about why I shouldn't repeat it."

A pause.

"I am sorry, that was rude, and... not intended for you."

"It is alright," Yeul said serenely. "It was a presumptuous thing for me to say and, on reflection, rather insulting of your intelligence. My apologies for that."

"Thank you," Liara said, fidgeting a little.

She gave the room a quiet gander and segued a little awkwardly into, "I am a bit thirsty - would you like something to drink?"
