The Archylte Steppe, Gran Pulse, Saturday

Snow was falling thickly enough outside that her parents had not suggested that she go and play the day away. If Yeul had been the type of person to be surprised, she might have been, but she wasn't. Instead, Yeul, who knew that they preferred that she stay out of their way, pressed her nose to the window sill and watched the snow fall.

Since that kept them from having to do anything with or about her, they left her to it. They had been leaving her alone more and more often, now that she was two this time around.

They left in short order for work--chocobos needed maintenance no matter the weather--and left her alone in the small house. After a while longer of watching the snow, Yeul felt sleepy and clambered down to doze on the couch.

[NFB! For Caius and Liara, please!]

Gran Pulse, Early Morning

If asked, Yeul would be honest about the fact that, out of all the eons she had to sort through and to pick and choose from, the times between her most recent death and her next birth were… soothing.

It was dark and there was little to do but be reformed bit by bit, piece by piece, accompanied by the rushing of blood in another's veins and the beat of another's heart. There was no need to do anything, or think anything. Just be.

Yeul, after so long, liked that best of all.

This time around, it reminded her a bit of the gift Liara had given her, of silent spaces that stretched on for eternity, only barely touched by stars.

Being reborn was unpleasant, but Yeul endured. She blinked newborn eyes at the world (again) and did not bother to listen to the warm and terribly familiar chatter that accompanied a birth. The warmth would fade, soon enough, as they realized who she was, rather than the child they thought they would have.

Yeul waited with no expectations of how she would be treated.

Over the years, she had found it was easier that way.

Room 207, Wednesday Around Noon

Really, it was her own fault for even having entertained the hope that Caius's suppositions were correct.

That was what Yeul told herself after picking herself up off the ground, feeling shaky and weak for the first time in this life.

She'd been brushing her hair out, not that in really needed it, while getting ready to leave for her afternoon class, Ender's class, when the visions had hit. They'd bowled her over, all the worse due her lack of anticipation, and her hairbrush had fallen to the floor while her whole body stiffened, her pupils turning to hourglasses.

The visions were, as always, a jumbled mess of events. Impressions, disasters, seconds where change had/hadn't/hasn't yet happened/might not happen/is happening right now before--she collapsed, knees hitting the ground hard, and breathing heavily, feeling dizzy and sick and her head pounding as she pressed her palms over her eyelids and reviewed the past. Or the future.

She wasn't sure. Someone was changing it in ways that they weren't supposed to.

She had to contact Caius. It was already too late to stop them--Serah and Noel, her new/old/twisted memories supplied the names--because they were already gone, time had already started, was already bent where they'd passed through the timelines without concern for the waves they left behind.

Slowly, Yeul got to her feet.

Caius had been wrong. Being here did nothing to stop her visions. She didn't blame him--that would be ridiculous--but she, well, didn't know what to think about it.

She'd been a fool to hope, she realized now. The problem, as she took something for her head, and sat on the edge of her bed, was that she didn't even remember when she'd started to hope.

That felt like something she should remember, and yet…

[Mostly establishy, but open sure!]

A Park on Thessia, Wednesday Late Afternoon

Yeul smiled wryly as she walked with Liara through the park nearest to Liara's apartment. It was late afternoon, her portals had gone smoothly, and now she was back on Thessia with nowhere else to be until her classes next week.

"Your mother took my arrival better than I thought she might, given your concerns yesterday about how busy she was keeping you," she said cheerfully. "But she was very polite in greeting me."

Even as they'd been shooed out the door with the strong whiff of 'go play' left unspoken but noticeable.

"I like her."

Polite parents were a rarity in Yeul's experience.

[NFB, for the modded-with-permission one, but also open for phone calls, sure.]

Academia, Gran Pulse, Friday

"This," Yeul said, as they stared out at the sprawling metropolis, "is Academia. It is the capital city of Gran Pulse and more people live here than in the rest of the world."

Because monsters ruled most of the world, in case her guests hadn't figured that out by now.

Academia was a tangled warren of streets and automatic paths that were marked by arrows. The bridges and stairways were translucent and crossed deep drops, as the city was built upon itself, higher and higher.

"The Academy is the center of human government these days," Yeul said, gesturing at the tall building that loomed over the rest of the city. "The building is open to the public, as they have an open door policy," to a degree, "and there's even a restaurant on the top floor. They say the view is fantastic."

The Archylte Steppe, Gran Pulse, Thursday

Today their destination was not ruins, but rather a rough village built of rusting metal and wood. In the distance large monsters could be seen flying.

The village was surrounded by lush plains with tall grass that whipped in the wind and concealed dips in the ground, while rivers made for natural boundaries with few bridges having been built to cross them. The most efficient way to get around the plains was to travel by chocobo.

But avoid the Long Gui, which was clearly visible even at a great distance. No one went near it as it was the largest monster in the world but placid, unless provoked.

[NFB and for them that have been invited. The theme song for The Archylte Steppe is Plains of Eternity.]

Oerba, Gran Pulse, Wednesday

Rather than remain in New Bodhum for the day, though they would return there for the night, Caius teleported them all to the ruins of a village. The buildings were made of metal (heavily rusted) and wood, which had held up surprisingly well under the ravages of time. Inside the buildings, personal things could be found: combs left on dressers, a few ancient photographs, and neatly folded blankets forgotten on the ends of beds.

A wide road cut through the village and a broad staircase led down to a murky beach. On top of one of the buildings, an overgrown fountain and the remnants of a garden could be found.

Powered crystal, which looked like snow from far away, and like sand close up, choked the side streets and surrounded the village.

"Welcome," Yeul said softly, "to Oerba."

New Bodhum, Gran Pulse, Tuesday

In deference to the fact that her friends knew very little about the world of Gran Pulse, Yeul had decided against dropping them in the middle of ruins on the first day.

Instead, she had settled on the seaside town of New Bodhum. Half of the town was built over the sea and the crystallized Cocoon could be seen in the distance.

When night fell, New Bodhum became even more beautiful as the night sky was lit up by Cocoon reflecting moonlight.

There was swimming to be done, or dining in the famous NORA House, a popular café for tourists. Just be careful not to go past the fence, where armed guards stand watch! While New Bodhum itself is safe, past the fence roam monsters.

[NFB and for them that have been invited. The theme music for New Bodhum can be listened to here.]

Fort Unicorn, Monday Evening

While other students were undoubtedly annoyed at their accommodations, Yeul had adjusted without really thinking about anything except for the fact that Evan being assigned to the same… bouncy castle was an interesting coincidence given that he'd been a puppy for two weeks now and she'd been looking after him and Ozzy.

Yeul read while lying on her stomach, with Ozzy on one side of herself and Evan on the other. The two dogs snoozed.

Every now and then she gave up on reading for minutes at a time to watch the outside from the screen walls.

She'd slept in more uncomfortable places. This one was… still probably the strangest.

Which was a feat.

[Mostly for Evan but open, sure!]

Room 207, Monday Early Evening

After classes and speaking to Cade, Yeul made another stop at the Perk before heading back to her room. Once back in her room, she straightened a few of the pillows and then settled down with a book, leaving the door half-open.

The book stayed closed in her lap though as she traced the lettering along the spine and let her thoughts roam peacefully.

She had not always been good at waiting. Yeul thought it was class that left her thinking of the times she had not been so skilled at it.

Thinking about it left her feeling a bit... nostalgic.

[Expecting one but open!]

Room 207, Monday Late Afternoon

After her classes, Yeul made her way back to her room. Once there, though, she fidgeted. Picking up a book and reading a few pages before setting it down and then looking at her beads to wonder if she should paint them only to decide that she did not feel like it.

She didn't want to leave her room but nothing in it appealed to her.

Eventually she left her door open, that seemed to help with the worst of the restlessness, and began a letter to Caius.

She could phone him. It was faster. Yeul didn't want to, not when she was still as unsettled as she ever got.

The beginning was, as always, simple: reassurance that she'd not had a vision, reiteration that she missed him, and a query about how he was doing.

After that… the words came slower as she tried to put her thoughts in order.

[Open door and post!]

Room 207, Monday Early Evening

Yeul had thought that spending the evening in her dorm room, reading a book while lounging on her bed, would be a peaceful, if solitary, thing to do.

She had not counted on the miniature reindeer that drifted in through her open door. Some of them managed to get up on her bed quite fine.

Now she was peering over the edge of her bed at one that hadn't managed to do the same. She reached a hand out to it. "Did you want to come up?"

It nuzzled her hand as the other reindeer made themselves comfortable on her bed. Since the one on the ground didn't seem to mind being there, Yeul went back to her book, leaving one hand dangling off the side of her bed to pet the reindeer.

It was still peaceful. Just not quite so solitary. She was hardly going to complain.

[Open door & post!]

Room 207, Monday Early Evening

It was the sort of day where, while there was nothing really to do in her room, she had not particularly felt like leaving it and her one concession to being social was to leave her door open as she sat on her floor, back against the side of her bed and dug her paints out from her pockets.

They were not for painting pictures, she had no talent for that, but rather they were for repainting her beaded accessories as the colors tended to fade.

It wasn’t the most exciting of work to be engrossed in but it was pleasing all the same and Yeul had never been one to seek out excitement anyway.

Perhaps she’d fetch a cup of tea in a bit? Yeul mulled over that as she carefully recolored a blue bead.

[Door & post open!]

The African Bush, Wednesday Evening

It was not that Yeul was deliberately being contrary to safety. She had handwavily enjoyed both the early and late safaris over the course of their stay but had found them to be peculiarly stifling.

Yeul was not accustomed to feeling stifled. When the sun had begun setting and the stars were shining down, and knowing as she did that they would be moving on tomorrow, it struck Yeul as a dreadful thing to not get to walk around without a group of people even once.

So, without really considering if it was a) advisable or b) safe or c) permitted, Yeul slipped away from the Lodge, without even trying to pretend she wasn't doing so, and headed out for a walk. The night air stirred her hair and tugged at her clothes as she made her way slowly away from what was, presumably, where they were supposed to stay.

She took her time, just enjoying the night and listening to the sounds of animals, and entirely unconcerned about anything that might be out there.

Worrying was for people who weren't her. Clearly.

[For the worrier!]

OOC: Info Post!

- Yeul's full name, Paddra Nsu-Yeul, stands for Yeul of the Nsu Clan, from the city of Paddra
- is from Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 (mostly the 2nd one)
- technically, she's a villain.
- even though she's basically the nicest villain ever (more on that under the cut)
- she has really green eyes and dark blue-silvery hair (it's really, really blue in the artwork and more blue-silvery in the game)
- walks with a bit of a limp; she was born with it and will tell you so if you ask about it. She doesn't need a cane and it doesn't hurt her, though it does slow her down. Yeul will not be winning any races. Ever.
- is 14. Sorta. (more on this also under the cut)
- is soft-spoken, but not shy
- is very gentle, very calm, and also fearless in the face of deadly danger
- is also very, very passive. Not 'doormat' passive, but 'non-reactive' passive when it comes to arguments, fights, danger, change… Yeul goes with the path of least resistance, preferring to let things fall out as they will, and in general is extremely fatalistic
- all of this is because she has the world's suckiest powers, which are elaborated on under the cut.

Note: I would advise people to read what's under the cut, but please be warned there's a lot of talk about repeated character death. (I promise that makes sense.)

also, spoilers for FFXIII-2 here )
